IN IT’S ENTIRETY

“The sound of The Prelude Implicit is vintage Kansas, flaunting intricate, orchestrated arrangements, tricky time signatures, sweeping melodies and rich harmonics”.
Billboard

“Listening to The Prelude Implicit, you hear echoes of everything that Kansas has been – the heartland prog-rock group, the rowdy bar band, the group with the chart hits, the hard-edged version from the late Eighties”
  Rolling Stone

“There is not a clunker, or any filler anywhere…A band that has been without new tunes for over a decade and a half is now changing things up and rediscovering themselves… and they are a force to be reckoned with.”
Classic Rock Revisited

“The Prelude Implicit is a grand statement, perhaps the grandest Kansas has made in the last thirty five years. It is the sound of a band comfortable with all the facets of it’s past, yet excited about the new possibilities of the future;
But above all, it is a triumph.”
Sentinel Daily

The Prelude Implicit features 10 all new tracks written by the band and co-produced by Zak Rizvi, Phil Ehart, and Richard Williams.  KANSAS’s signature sound is evident throughout the album.  It showcases Ronnie Platt’s soaring lead vocals, David Ragsdale’s blistering violin, Williams and Rizvi’s rocking guitar riffs, the unmistakable sound of David Manion’s B3 organ and keyboards, Ehart’s thundering drums, and Billy Greer’s driving bass and vocals.

KANSAS returned to the studio in January 2016 after signing with Inside Out Music.  Says Inside Out founder and president Thomas Waber, “KANSAS is the biggest and most important Prog band to come out of the United States. I grew up listening to them, and their music is part of my DNA.  ‘The Prelude Implicit’ undoubtedly adds to their already impressive musical legacy.  I can’t stop listening to it, and we are proud to be releasing the album.”

The result of the time in the studio was even more than the band imagined.  “This is definitely a KANSAS album,” remarks original guitarist Richard Williams. “Whether it is the trademark Prog epic like ‘The Voyage of Eight Eighteen,’ biting rocker such as ‘Rhythm in the Spirit,’ or mindful ballad like ‘The Unsung Heroes,’ there is something on this album for every kind of KANSAS fan.  After years of pent-up creativity, the entire band is very proud of ‘The Prelude Implicit.’”

Lead Vocalist Ronnie Platt adds, “Recording ‘The Prelude Implicit’ was an incredible experience, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. It is my hope that, knowing the intense listeners that KANSAS fans are, the continuity yet diversity of this album will be pleasing to them.”

The album title, The Prelude Implicit means, “Without a doubt, this is a new musical beginning,” explains Ehart. Tattoo artist, Denise de la Cerda, did the oil painting of the front and back cover.  “It shows a Phoenix flying from the past into the future.”

Rock Band KANSAS Adds Zak Rizvi as 2nd Guitarist

The band KANSAS is excited to announce the addition of guitarist Zak Rizvi as its newest member.

While new to KANSAS’s on stage lineup, Rizvi is not new to working with the band.  His relationship with KANSAS goes back almost 20 years when his band 4front opened for KANSAS.  Zak went on to work alongside producer Jeff Glixman on various KANSAS projects, including “There’s Know Place Like Home,” as well as the Native Window album, a project of KANSAS’s Phil Ehart, Billy Greer, David Ragsdale, and Richard Williams.  This led to KANSAS asking Rizvi to co-produce the band’s upcoming album, “The Prelude Implicit.”

“Zak goes back a long way with the band, to a time when he relentlessly chased me down via fax machine to pitch song ideas,” explains KANSAS drummer Phil Ehart.   “As we were all working together on the new album, it was obvious to us that he was a natural fit for KANSAS.   Richard and I turned to each other and questioned, ‘Why isn’t he in this band?’  After discussing it with the other guys, Zak and I took a walk together in the studio parking lot, and I invited him to join.  Zak accepted.  He’s a good friend, an incredible person, guitarist, and songwriter, and we are happy to have him aboard.”

“I’m really thankful and excited for this opportunity,” commented Rizvi. “Having a long history of working with the band and Jeff Glixman, I really look forward to adding to the legacy of the band.  KANSAS has a very high musical standard, and as member of the band, I plan to maintain that standard for the band and the fans.”

Guitarist Richard Williams adds, “It’s been a very long time since the band has had two full time guitarists.  It’s really exciting to get back to that and what Zak will add to the live sound.  He’s a very talented guitarist, and what he contributed to “The Prelude Implicit” is nothing short of remarkable.”

Rizvi’s first performance with KANSAS will be May 12 in Bowling Green, KY.

Rock Band KANSAS to Launch Tour in Celebration of 40th Anniversary of Breakthrough Album ‘Leftoverture’

SEXTUPLE PLATINUM ALBUM TO BE PERFORMED IN ITS ENTIRETY

America’s preeminent progressive rock band KANSAS will be touring select cities this fall celebrating the 40th Anniversary of their breakthrough album ‘Leftoverture.’  To celebrate, for the first time in history, the band will be performing the album in its entirety.  The tour will showcase two hours of classic KANSAS music including hit songs, deep cuts, and new songs from their soon to be released album, ‘The Prelude Implicit.”

In 1976, KANSAS released the album ‘Leftoverture.’ Containing the smash hit, and million-selling single “Carry On Wayward Son,” along with fan favorites such as “The Wall,” “Miracles Out Of Nowhere,” and “What’s On My Mind,” ‘Leftoverture,’ became the band’s breakthrough album. The album peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Album charts and reached sextuple-platinum status for more than 6 million copies sold.

“These definitely will not be your typical KANSAS concerts of the past few years,” commented original KANSAS guitarist Richard Williams. “This is incredibly exciting for the entire band, and hopefully our fans. It’s something we’ve never done before, play an album in its entirety, as part of a set. ‘Leftoverture’ was our breakthrough, and it’s special that we are getting to celebrate it 40 years later. We’ve never even played “Questions of My Childhood” live before.   I can’t wait!”

The tour will also debut performances of songs from the band’s latest studio release ‘The Prelude Implicit.’  The new album, scheduled for release in September 2016 is the band’s 15th studio album and first new album since 2000.

KANSAS Lead Vocalist Ronnie Platt added, “This is going to be really special for both the band and our fans. It has been really wild recording ‘The Prelude Implicit.’  We are anxious to perform some of the songs for live audiences.  To be able to do that while also be performing ‘Leftoverture’ in its entirety, and more; this is going to be a blast! Who knows, we may even have some more twists added in!”

KANSAS Signs with APA

“MIRACLES OUT OF NOWHERE” DOCUMENTARY PREMIERES ON VH1 CLASSIC & PALLADIA, DEBUTS IN BILLBOARD TOP 200

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 2, 2015) – KANSAS, one of the most iconic Rock ‘n’ Roll bands of all time will continue to forge their musical legacy by signing with APA for worldwide representation to bring their unique sound to fans around the globe.  Band members Phil Ehart, Billy Greer, David Manion, Ronnie Platt, David Ragsdale, and Richard Williams are looking forward to keeping their one-of-a-kind music on the road.

“KANSAS has been a part of the Rock ‘n’ Roll landscape for over four decades,” commented Steve Lassiter, SVP/Partner and Head of Concerts at APA Nashville.  “Their fans are extremely devoted, and we at APA are excited to continue to unite the band with their fans for more stops along their musical journey.”

Miracles Out Of Nowhere, a new, in-depth documentary chronicling the legendary band’s beginnings and rise to fame, premiered in February at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and made its television premiere on both VH1 Classic and Palladia on March 20.  The film and companion CD was released on March 23 and debuted at #37 on Billboard’s Album Sales chart and at #61 on the Billboard Top 200.

KANSAS’s first public statement appeared on their self-titled album in 1974. “From the beginning, we considered ourselves and our music different and we hope we will always remain so.” Little did this legendary rock group realize that back in the early ‘70’s, what seemed to be “different,” was actually ahead of its time.

This “garage band” from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner.

With over 30 million records sold, the band has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and a million-selling gold single, ‘Dust in the Wind.’ KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ‘70’s and ‘80’s and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ was the #2 most played track on classic rock radio in 1995 and went to #1 in 1997.

Along with touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio and has reached a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence on the popular video games Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and through their songs inclusion in various television shows such as ‘Supernatural,’ and ‘South Park,’ and with films ‘Old School,’ and ‘Anchorman.’

“Miracles Out Of Nowhere” is the unlikely yet true story of a great band that came out of the Heartland, and made rock & roll history that’s so much more than dust in the wind.”

David Wild, Rolling Stone

“From miracles to masterpieces, this is the definitive story of Kansas!”

 – Jeb Wright, ClassicRockRevisited.com

“As epic a story as much of the music KANSAS made, and frequently as wild and wonderful.”

– Jerry Ewing, Prog Magazine

“Miracles Out of Nowhere is a compelling documentary which chronicles Kansas’ rise from a local Midwestern band to one of the Seventies most iconic and influential super groups.”

-Joe Lalaina, Guitar World

“If you only watch one documentary in 2015, make it Miracles Out of Nowhere, directed by Charley Randazzo.. It shows you how they went from being a local band from Topeka, Kansas to rock and roll icons. And their journey is one hell of a story.”

– Suzanna Bowling, Times Square Chronicles

April 2nd, 2015 More than twenty-five years have passed since KANSAS has made an appearance on the Billboard charts. Today, Miracles Out Of Nowhere, the documentary (and companion audio CD) chronicling their incredible career has debuted in the Billboard Top 200! This incredible feat comes on the heels of the band’s 40-year anniversary of their debut album.

To commemorate the occasion, the classic KANSAS lineup reunited, for the first time in more than 30 years; at the place their incredible journey began, Topeka, Kansas! There, they relived the incredible untold story of one of the most successful American rock bands of their era. Returning to monumental career landmarks in their hometown, as well as sharing untold memories ranging from touring to songwriting and recording, the band shares how the smash hit “Dust in the Wind” was just a passing comment away from never being recorded!  Viewers will hear the band tell stories about recording in the studio next to John Lennon, a backstage fight with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, and how the words “free beer” changed their lives forever! Miracles Out of Nowhere presents KANSAS in a way they have never before been seen.

Miracles Out Of Nowhere had a televised premiere with VH1 Classic and Palladia on Friday, March 20th. The premiere was incredibly well received and boasted amazing numbers for both channels.

The documentary features interviews from legendary Queen guitarist and former tour mate Brian May, acclaimed producer Brendan O’Brien, Rolling Stone journalist David Wild, and more. Featured prominently is country icon Garth Brooks, who counts KANSAS, alongside The Beatles and the Eagles, as one of his greatest inspirations. These extraordinary new insights are coupled with rare and unseen footage, including live performances and candid, fan-shot footage of the band on the road. Miracles Out of Nowhere offers an unprecedented look at the incredible ascent of KANSAS, a story that will appeal to new fans and veteran enthusiasts alike.

About KANSAS

From the beginning, KANSAS was fascinating in its unconventional approach to rock stardom.  The sextet, composed of drummer Phil Ehart, bassist Dave Hope, keyboardist/guitarist Kerry Livgren, violinist/vocalist Robby Steinhardt, vocalist/keyboardist Steve Walsh, and guitarist Richard Williams were unlikely candidates for mainstream success in every way.  After an improbable pairing with rock impresario Don Kirshner, the man behind the Monkees who signed and financed KANSAS on his Kirshner label, their relentless drive to succeed eventually resulted in instantly recognizable iconic hits like “Carry On Wayward Son,” “Dust in the Wind,” and “Point of Know Return.”

KANSAS has released eight gold albums, three 6x platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, The Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show) and the million-selling single “Dust in the Wind.” Albums and singles by KANSAS could be found on the Billboard charts for more than 200 weeks during the 1970s and 1980s. “Dust in the Wind” and “Carry On My Wayward Son” can still be heard on today’s radio.
